ACCSAT is organizing and sponsoring a conference entitled “A Gathering of Mindful Professionals”, Nov 14-15, 2011 in Halifax. This unique gathering will, for the first time, bring together ‘mindful professionals’ from throughout Atlantic Canada to deepen and share their experience with their own personal contemplative practices and how they are applying them in their professional work.
The Keynote presentation “Mindfulness across the professions” will be given by Barry Boyce. Mindfulness journalist Barry Boyce has been traveling throughout North America interviewing leaders and innovators who are introducing mindfulness in a wide range of professions. In this keynote presentation he will talk about people he has met doing work in health care, education, the workplace, the military, counseling, social work, and even fire-fighting. He will share what he has learned from them about what works and what doesn’t work in bringing mindfulness into western society.
Barry Boyce has been writing about people and programs in the mindfulness arena for several decades. He is editor-in-chief of Mindful.org and editor of The Mindfulness Revolution: Leading Psychologists, Scientists, Artists, and Meditation Teachers on the Power of Mindfulness in Daily Life
He will soon be editor-in-chief of a new North America-wide magazine, Mindful. A longtime practitioner of mindfulness practice, Barry has also taught mindfulness and related practices since 1978. He is an articulate, engaging and compassionate speaker. His presentations are filled with insight, information and humor.
Barry lives in Halifax with his wife Judith.
